Kilometer fee - 60 thousand registrations
The registration of odometer readings for petrol and diesel cars has gotten off to a very good start. Around 60 thousand registrations have been received since the new law was passed on December 19.

Of these, 228 registrations were received on New Year's Eve, during the broadcast of the Áramótaskaup comedy show! It takes less than a minute to register the reading on My Pages on Ísland.is or in the Ísland.is app.
The mileage charge will be paid monthly, similar to an electricity bill, with the first due date on February 1, 2026.
The mileage charge is based on the average monthly driving distance, estimated from the last two odometer registrations.
Most cars already have at least two registrations, as the odometer reading has been recorded during vehicle inspections and changes of ownership.
Vehicle keepers are encouraged to check their vehicle's odometer registration on Ísland.is before January 20 and add a registration if only one exists from the last 12 months. This ensures that the mileage charge reflects actual driving.
