Katrín Kristinsdóttir Appointed Head of Nursing and Inpatient Care Departments at HSN Blönduós
Katrín Kristinsdóttir, a registered nurse, has been appointed Head of Nursing and Inpatient Care Departments at HSN Blönduós. She will assume the position on December 1. Having grown up in rural Iceland, Katrín is well acquainted with life in smaller communities and is looking forward to relocating to Blönduós.

“I was born and raised in Siglufjörður, and I think it is wonderful to live in a small, close-knit community. I started working on a hospital ward in Siglufjörður when I was 17 years old and quickly realized that healthcare was the right field for me.”
Katrín initially trained as a nursing assistant and worked primarily at Dalbær Nursing Home in Dalvík, first as a nursing assistant and later, for two years, as a registered nurse alongside her nursing studies. In 2016, she and her family moved to Lund, Sweden, where she worked as a nursing assistant for a year before returning to Iceland. In addition to completing her studies as a nursing assistant and qualifying as a registered nurse in 2022, Katrín completed a programme in spiritual coaching in 2023 and went on to teach the subject for one winter. “That education gave me excellent experience in communication techniques and a much deeper understanding of how the mind works,” says Katrín.
Sweden called again in 2024, and for the past two years Katrín has worked as a registered nurse at a residential care home for older adults in Åhus, southern Sweden. There, nurses are primarily responsible for administrative and coordination duties and work closely with physicians, family members, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists. “This role has given me valuable experience in organization and in maintaining an overall view of the support and care required for each individual resident. There was also a strong focus on hygiene practices and on identifying ways to improve our work processes while reducing the risk of infections and transmission,” says Katrín.
Katrín is very excited about moving back to Iceland. “This will be my first management position, but I feel ready for the challenge. Over the past few years, I have stepped well outside my comfort zone and grown professionally as a result. I find it very easy to work with others, and I am truly looking forward to moving to Blönduós, getting to know a new workplace, and meeting new colleagues,” Katrín concludes.
We warmly welcome Katrín to HSN and wish her and her family every success and happiness in the years ahead.
