Repeated speeding
There is every reason to remind drivers who pass through Austurberg in Reykjavík to reduce their speed.

At the speedometer earlier this week, opposite the Leiknir sports complex, the offender rate was 58%, while the maximum speed limit in Austurberg is 30. The average speed of the offenders was 47 km/h when 92 of the 160 drivers were caught speeding. The fastest driver was measured at 72, and the person is facing a fine of ISK 90,000 and a suspension of driving licence for three months. One more person was driving a little slower, at 67, and is also facing a suspension of driving licence for three months. Furthermore, it can be stated that at the speedometer in Austurberg in the autumn, the offender rate was also 58%, which is considered very high. Also, one person was deprived of driving licence because of speeding. There is a lot of pedestrians and bicyclists in Austurberg, as there is both a primary school and a high school along the street, as well as a gym and swimming pool.
The police remind drivers to be careful, to pay attention and to respect the maximum speed. This is always the case, but speeding happens, unfortunately, all over the District year-round and needs to be changed.
