Ísland.is CMS in tender

At the end of July, a tender was opened for the content management system (CMS) of Ísland.is. Bidders have until 13:00 on September 11, 2025, to submit their tenders.

A Content Management System is a system that manages web pages and web managers and those who contribute content for Ísland.is like articles, news, and other content there. It is possible to develop various functions for websites within the system and to share content for other media like apps for smart devices, internal systems, and more. The system needs to be able to manage the ever-growing website Ísland.is, which plays a key role in providing information to the public about public services. Dozens of individuals use the system and create content; already 52 public websites have moved to Ísland.is and dozens are in preparation. These include the website of the police, Landspítali, the National Hospital, and other agencies. The system needs to be both user-friendly as well as able to manage the complex ecosystem of Ísland.is.

The tender aims to conclude a long-term contract with a responsible party and ensure that the high-quality standards of Digital Iceland are met most efficiently in accordance with the laws on public procurement.

Digital Iceland has thrice gone public with a multi-disciplinary framework agreement for software teams, operational environment, chattermen, procurement of consulting services, and most recently for public service systems.

The Financial Management Authority - Public Procurement handles all communications for the tender. Read more about the tender on their official procurement website.
