Has the lifesaving and safety equipment been inspected?

Operators are reminded that lifesaving and safety equipment must always be inspected when its validity expires.

The Icelandic Transport Authority wants to emphasise, to prevent misunderstanding, that rescue and safety equipment of ships (such as lifeboats, launching equipment - pressure-membranes, distress flares, etc.), shall always be inspected, tested or renewed when the period of validity of the equipment expires. An example is that rubber lifeboats shall be inspected every 12 months by an authorised service provider. These inspections are independent of other inspections of the ship.

Owners and operators must be aware that, despite the changes in the arrangements for ship inspections (such as equipment inspection, machinery and electrical inspection, bottom inspection, etc.), no changes have been made regarding when rescue and safety equipment must be tested, inspected or renewed.
