Guidelines for voters on information security
Short guidelines for voters have been issued in collaboration with the National Electoral Commission, the Media Commission, the Electronic Communications Office of Iceland, CERT-IS, the Data Protection Authority, and the Office of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police.
It is important to assess the reliability and security of information published in connection with the referendum. By applying critical thinking, you as a voter can make an informed decision based on your own convictions.

Learn about the issue from more than one source, and seek objective and accurate information before reaching a conclusion.
Look at who is behind advertisements and sponsored content, especially if the advertisement is trying to influence your position on the referendum.
Be critical of content on social media, consider its credibility, and verify its sources.
Report advertisements that are unclear or not properly labeled as advertisements on social media.
You should not receive unsolicited marketing messages by email, SMS, or other electronic means unless you have consented to such communications.
Protect your social media accounts with strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
Be mindful of your personal data and aware of how names, phone numbers, email addresses, and information about behavior can be used to target advertisements and influence you.
Be especially aware of AI-generated content and check whether images, videos, or information you see have been created or altered using artificial intelligence.
Seek official information about the referendum at kosning.is if you are uncertain about its administration, the voting process, or other practical matters.
Remember that you have an independent choice - learn about the issues, verify information, and make decisions based on reliable information.
