Guðjón Hauksson appointed CEO of Sjúkrahúsið á Akureyri

Alma D. Möller, Minister of Health, has appointed Guðjón Hauksson as CEO of Sjúkrahúsið á Akureyri for a five-year term commencing on 1 June.

Alma D. Möller, Minister of Health, has appointed Guðjón Hauksson as CEO of Sjúkrahúsið á Akureyri for a five-year term commencing on 1 June. We warmly welcome Guðjón to his new role at SAk.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Health:

"Alma D. Möller, Minister of Health, has appointed Guðjón Hauksson as CEO of Sjúkrahúsið á Akureyri for a five-year term commencing on 1 June. The position was advertised on 27 February. The Minister’s decision is in accordance with the recommendation of an advisory selection committee, which considered Guðjón the most qualified applicant for the role.

Guðjón has extensive education and professional experience in healthcare and health services. He completed a BSc in Nursing from University of Iceland in 2006, a master’s degree in Health Services Research from Boston University School of Public Health in 2012, and a master’s degree in Health Economics from the University of Iceland in 2015.

Guðjón is currently CEO of Heilbrigðisstofnun Austurlands, a position he has held since 2017. Prior to that, he served as Head of an inpatient ward at the same institution for four years. He has also worked as a specialist at the Icelandic Medicines Reimbursement Committee, a specialist at the Ministry of Health, and as a project manager and registered nurse at Landspítali.

As noted in the selection committee’s assessment, Guðjón has acquired very broad knowledge of the healthcare system through his work. During his nearly decade-long tenure as CEO of HSA, he has also gained extensive knowledge and experience in public sector planning and finance, as well as in human resources and public administration.
