Good to age – Signing of agreement on the operation of integrated home care services for the elderly in Húnaþing vestra

The Healthcare Institution of West Iceland (HVE) and the municipality of Húnaþing vestra have signed an agreement on the operation of integrated home care for senior citizens in Húnaþing vestra. The agreement is based on participation in the government’s development project “Getting older”, which was approved by the Icelandic parliament, Althingi, on 10 May 2023.

The aim of the agreement is to provide comprehensive and effective integrated social and health care for people living in their homes and thus to promote the safe living of older people at home for as long as possible, in the most normal conditions.

Preparations have been underway for almost a year and representatives of HVE and the municipality have done a very good job as the project is viewed from a new perspective. Hvammstangi price has also commissioned the testing of a new instrument (WHODAS) which is used to assess the need for home care.

The agreement will take effect on 1 January 2025 and HVE will be responsible for the operation of the service.

The agreement will be valid until 31 December 2027 and will be reviewed annually in accordance with the development of the service and the needs of senior citizens in Húnaþing vestra.
