From the Easter shift

There was plenty to do for the Metropolitan Police at Easter.

Traffic was extremely heavy, with forty-five drivers being taken for drink and/or drug driving in the District. Speeding was also noticeable, with the most severe speeding offence occurring on Suðurlandsvegur, where a car was measured at 183 km. The driver, a man in his thirties, was taken to a police station and temporarily suspended from driving. He faces charges for this violent driving.

Twenty-one assaults were reported, three of them serious, and about ten calls were made for domestic violence. There were a number of thefts, but among other things, seven break-ins were reported to the police. There were five break-ins in companies/institutions and two in storage rooms.

Finally, registration plates were removed from about thirty cars in the District, but they were either uninsured or unchecked.
