Excess Catch in Coastal Fishing in May
The Directorate of Fisheries has informed 567 coastal fishing operators that their vessels have exceeded the maximum catch which is permitted per fishing trip in coastal fishing in May.
According to Act on Special Fees for Illegal Marine Catches a fee is imposed for excess catch in coastal fishing. After 20th of June, it will be possible to pay the fee in your online bank, as from then, the invoices for the fee will be available in the digital mailbox on Ísland.is.
The excess catch of vessels in coastal fishing was around 83 tons and information on excess catch can be accessed along with information on the 20 vessels that have landed the largest excess catch over the entire country or in each region on the Directorate of Fisheries' data pages.
On the data pages, the Directorate of Fisheries has also published an estimate of remaining fishing days in coastal fishing. The estimate is based on the average catch of already completed fishing days, based those information it can be assumed that coastal fishing will end in the second week of July.
