Drone Ban over Grindavík – Updated 22 November 2024

Due to the volcanic eruption and necessary emergency and investigative flights, the Icelandic Transport Authority, at the request of the Civil Protection Coordination Centre, has prohibited all drone flights over Grindavík.

Due to the volcanic eruption and necessary emergency and investigative flights, the Icelandic Transport Authority, at the request of the Civil Protection Coordination Centre, has prohibited all drone flights over Grindavík and surrounding areas within the following coordinates:
63°52'24"N 022°28'20"W, 63°53'17"N 022°28'20"W, 63°55'47"N 022°25'52"W, 63°55'50"N 022°19'13"W, 63°53'43"N 022°19'00"W, 63°52'00"N 022°22'50"W.

The ban applies to an area designated as BIR65, extending from the surface (SFC) up to 1500 feet above mean sea level (AMSL). Additional restrictions apply to the BIR4 area, covering a radius of 2 nautical miles around coordinates 63°53'22"N 022°22'38"W, with an altitude restriction between 1500 and 2500 feet AMSL.

The ban is valid until midnight, 31 December 2024.
