Drone Attack on Chernobyl - Radiation in the Environment Unchanged

In the early hours on February 14th, a drone attack was carried out on the shelter built around the ruins of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities. A fire broke out on the shelter, burning an area of about 40 square meters at 8 AM. The fire has since been extinguished. No increased radiation has been measured in the area following this.

Radiation levels (total gamma radiation) can be monitored in near real-time across Europe and beyond on the EURDEP website.

The Icelandic Radiation Protection Agency has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine since the beginning of the war and receives, among other things, regular reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The agency will continue to monitor the development of events in the area. The news will be updated if necessary.
