Donation to the Rehabilitation Pool at Kristnes

Rebekah Lodge No. 16 Laufey – Oddfellow recently made a generous donation to the physiotherapy unit at the rehabilitation department of the Akureyri Hospital, providing flotation equipment for use in the pool at Kristnes.

“With this donation, facilities for flotation therapy have improved significantly, as the pool now has equipment for up to ten individuals at a time. This creates new and diverse opportunities in rehabilitation, both for individual treatments and group floating sessions, where the focus is on deep relaxation, body awareness, and mental well-being,” says Sólveig Bennýjar Haraldsdóttir, physiotherapy assistant.

The idea for the donation arose when Ester Gestsdóttir stayed at the rehabilitation department in Kristnes in January 2026. She saw the potential to strengthen this type of therapy, as only one set of flotation equipment was available at the time. She subsequently presented the idea to her lodge, which responded very positively. Ragnheiður Sveinsdóttir and Ester personally delivered the equipment at a formal ceremony.

It is also worth noting that Sólveig Bennýjar Haraldsdóttir, physiotherapy assistant and yoga instructor at the department, has completed training in guided flotation therapy at Flothettan in Reykjavík. This expertise will further support the professional development of flotation therapy at the facility.

“The donation will benefit a diverse group of patients and strengthen both the physical and mental rehabilitation of those who use the department’s services,” Sólveig Bennýjar Haraldsdóttir adds.
