Defend Iceland and Digital Iceland in collaboration on cyber security

Digital Iceland and Defend Iceland have signed an agreement to cooperate in the field of cybersecurity. The purpose of the agreement is to use Defend Iceland’s bug bounty to detect security vulnerabilities in Digital Iceland’s systems and thereby increase and strengthen the defense against cyber attacks.

Defend Iceland aims to use proactive security measures to create a safer digital society. Increased knowledge of the existence and nature of security vulnerabilities in organizational systems is a prerequisite for achieving the goal at a time when cyber attacks are growing rapidly.

Defend Iceland’s vulnerability portal simulates the methods of hackers and organised cyber attack groups to constantly and systematically search for vulnerabilities in IT systems. This allows for correcting security vulnerabilities before cyber criminals can exploit them.

Theódór Ragnar Gíslason, founder and CEO of Defend Iceland:

“It is a welcome development when managers have the vision to use proactive security measures to increase the resilience of important social infrastructure against cyber attacks. The collaboration with Digital Iceland is also an important step on the road to building a security awareness and positive security culture in the public sector. We are therefore very pleased to welcome Digital Iceland to Defend Iceland’s customer base and look forward to working with them to create a safer digital society.”

Birna Íris Jónsdóttir, CEO of Digital Iceland:

“At Digital Iceland we place great emphasis on cyber security and ensuring that data is always well protected. Through our collaboration with Defend Iceland we get the opportunity to identify security vulnerabilities, if any, and to respond proactively. The project will not affect the day-to-day operations of institutions or cause strain on the technical infrastructure.”

The agreement to work together came into force in mid-August 2024. As Defend Iceland’s weakness search is conducted around the clock throughout the year, the first results can be expected in September.
