Changes to digital certificates – including driver's licenses and firearms licenses

The goal of this change is to ensure consistent and secure use of digital certificates by providing access to them in one place – the island.is app.

What does this mean for you as a user?

If you have a digital driver’s license or digital firearms license in your phone wallet, starting July 1, you will need to use them:

• Through the island.is app

• By logging in to island.is in a web browser

The digital driver’s licenses and firearms licenses will remain fully valid and can still be shown on your phone – just not through the phone wallet (Wallet).

However, existing certificates in the phone wallet may still be used until August 30, 2025. After that date, digital certificates will only be accessible through the island.is app.
