CERT-IS warns of cyber fraud using the look of Ísland.is

Note that Ísland.is authentication is never used for home banking logins.

Regularly the last few weeks hackers have been sending messages to individuals in the name of Ísland.is. This is done for the purpose of getting personal information across. These particular phishing activities ask people to use their eID to log on to their commercial bank.

We at Ísland.is do not know knowledge of the hackers getting through, but are grateful both to those who have informed us of the phishing and also to those who have warned their fellow citizens about the fraud in the last few days. Information and solidarity is our best defense.

The general rule is to always look closely at who the sender is who might look trustworthy at first glance, but not when you look at the email address or website.

We also encourage people to report cybercrime to CERT-IS through their website or the email address cert@cert.is.

Let us continue to protect our personal information together.
