Bank Transfers Now Available as a Payment Method for Applications on Ísland.is

It is now possible to pay for applications on Ísland.is by transferring funds directly from a personal bank account.

Until now, users have been able to pay by debit or credit card and, for selected applications, through payment claims. This new payment method gives users greater flexibility in how they pay for public services.

When users select bank transfer as their payment method in the Ísland.is Payment System, they enter the details of the bank account they wish to use. The system then sends a payment request through Blikk's payment infrastructure.

The payer authorises the payment request in their banking app using their preferred authentication method, such as facial recognition or fingerprint identification. Once the payment has been approved, the amount is immediately transferred from the payer's bank account to the account of the Financial Management Authority (Fjársýslan). Processing of the application then begins.

Bank transfers are currently supported for accounts held with Landsbankinn, Íslandsbanki, Arion Bank, and Kvika/Aur, with more financial institutions expected to join in the near future.

The new payment method can be used for a range of applications, including criminal record certificates, passports, driving licences, vehicle ownership transfers, and various permits and licences.

In the near future, there are plans to integrate the Ísland.is Payment System into the "Unpaid Bills / Finances" section of Ísland.is. This will enable users to pay various public fees and charges through bank transfers powered by Blikk's services.
