Amendments to taxi legislation take effect on 1 June
The Icelandic Transport Authority highlights amendments to taxi legislation that will take effect on 1 June 2026.

The Icelandic Transport Authority has sent an information letter to operating licence holders and taxi dispatch stations regarding amendments to taxi legislation that will take effect on 1 June 2026.
Key changes:
All taxi operators must be registered with a taxi dispatch station holding a valid licence from the Icelandic Transport Authority.
Taxi dispatch stations are required to record all journeys electronically, including information on the start and end of the trip, route and payment. The data must be retained for a minimum of 60 days.
The electronic recording systems used by dispatch stations must undergo an annual audit by an independent party approved by the Icelandic Transport Authority.
A formal complaints process must be in place. Passengers must be able to report excessive pricing or poor service, and taxi drivers will be required to inform passengers of these rights. The same requirements apply to licence holders operating under their own dispatch station as well as to those holding a licence to operate a taxi dispatch station.
