A policeman through and through

Former Chief Superintendent Magnús Einarsson's funeral was held yesterday from Árbæjarkirkja church. We send our sincere condolences to his family.

Magnús, who was a police officer, worked in the police for decades and taught at the State Police School for many years. He spent most of his time in the Reykjavík Police, but his career was completed by the Kópavogur Police.

Magnús was one of those who was called to the department when it was founded in 1960 and always remembered the years there with warmth. In an interview he once recalled that time, saying in part:

...reported that a car was driving at speed in the city. In it was a cashmere woman in the back seat, which explained the speeding. We of course rushed and the woman got to the maternity ward. You shouldn't forget that the child had been born in the car.

The pregnant woman still resonates with him, as she was so grateful for the help of the police that she gave the child, who turned out to be a boy, the name Magnús or in the head of the chief constable.”

The following is a series of photos from the first part of Magnús’ career in the police force.
