A generous gift from Ragnar Hólm, artist
Ragnar Hólm Ragnarsson, an artist, has donated an oil painting and a watercolor painting to Akureyri Hospital.

True to his style, the watercolors are gentle landscape scenes, while the oil painting is a powerful burst of color. For over a decade, Ragnar Hólm has practiced art with great passion and has held more than 20 solo exhibitions.
“Sólveig Hulda, the head of the Internal Medicine Department, approached me in passing and asked whether I might have a painting that could brighten up the new palliative care room at SAk. I considered it an honour if my works could help people in difficult circumstances forget their troubles for a moment and perhaps even help them dream of better days,” says Ragnar.
“We have created a palliative care room for patients and wanted the space to provide comfort and care. Art can often reassure and console in a unique way, and I was certain that works by Ragnar Hólm would be a wonderful fit. That's why I decided to ask him, and I’m absolutely delighted that he responded positively and donated these beautiful pieces to us,” says Sólveig Hulda, head of the Internal Medicine Department.
A small gift in memory of my parents
“I myself became an orphan in my older years, and you could say that this small gift is in memory of my parents, who passed from this life a few years ago. One of the pieces is an oil painting that was originally meant to be abstract but unexpectedly turned into a bouquet of flowers, which I then developed in soft tones. The other is a watercolor that I painted in the summer of 2024 at the mouth of Svarfaðardalur. I hope these works will be a worthy addition to the collection of Akureyri Hospital.”
