Iceland Health and SÁÁ

Iceland Health and SÁÁ have reached an agreement to revise the current agreement between the parties with the aim of strengthening governance and creating a clearer framework for SÁÁ's health services. The parties consider the changes an important step in strengthening confidence in the operation and creating a solid foundation for continued services to the large group of people who need them.

STATEMENT FROM SJÚKRARTYGGINGI AND SÁÁ

Iceland Health and SÁÁ declare a joint willingness to review the current agreement, which was signed on December 19, 2025.

The aim of the revision is to strengthen the provisions of the agreement between the parties on administrative governance which, among other things, ensures an arm's length between the NGO and the professional management of health services.

At the same time, it will be ensured that in the future, as before, health services will be provided in the name of SÁÁ. At the same time, work will continue on the basis of the same ideology and policy regarding services, cf. the current agreement.

The changes in question may include appointing a special board of directors of 3-5 members over the health service, which will be composed for the majority of independent parties whose role is to ensure professional quality and good governance. Iceland Health and SÁÁ will consult on the appointment. According to this arrangement, SÁÁ's executive board will act as the owner of the health service and participate in shaping its general emphases in consultation with the board.

The roles of key executives and key experts will also be clarified and the demands that will be made of them will be clearly formulated.

It is the opinion of the parties that these changes can contribute to increased confidence, both among employees and in society in general, in the important health services provided by SÁÁ. It is the opinion of the Iceland Health and SÁÁ that it is necessary to look to the future, ensure good governance and seek all means to prevent disputes arising over the operation.

Furthermore, SÁÁ will continue to work to ensure health services in accordance with the requirements made in the association's agreement with the Iceland Health.
