Doctors applying for a pharmacy certificate
Iceland Health introduce upcoming changes to the drug certificate application process

The current application form is largely based on free text. To increase efficiency, the application process will change in the near future and will be set up as a standard electronic form with predefined fields filled in by doctors. The new application form is primarily based on doctors confirming that the conditions for co-payment are met, as the conditions will be specified in the application form. When an application is sent, the doctor is immediately notified whether the application has been automatically approved or whether it will be examined by Iceland Health.
Doctors will not be required to send the medical history of the patient to Iceland Health. However, Iceland Health is authorised to request documentation from a doctor to confirm that the information provided in the application for a medicine certificate is correct.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that there may be some glitches in the implementation of the new application form, but we encourage doctors to try it without hesitation despite possible error messages.
The aim of the amendment is to simplify the application process, ensure that the necessary information is received from doctors in a clear and uniform manner, as well as to promote automatic processing of applications.
