Negotiating a debt with a creditor

List all debts and who you owe. The people you owe money to are your creditors. If you owe money, you are sometimes called a debtor.

Order debt by significance

Payments of household-related debts should be given priority, such as payments of:

• mortgages

• rental

• Real estate taxes

• energy bills

Other debts can be prioritised by paying:

• the lowest debts first

• into debts at the highest interest or cost

• deficit payments bearing late interest
