Handling of personal data

The Icelandic Road Administration, Suðurhraun 3 201 Garðabær, is the responsible party for processing personal data for the project. The website Iceland.is is operated by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Arnarhvoli on 101 Lindargata Reykjavík. The processing of personal data into loftbru.island.is is carried out on the basis of a processing agreement between the Ministry and the Icelandic Road Administration.

The following is information on the processing of personal data for the project. Further information is also available in the Data Protection Policy of the Government of Iceland, and in the Data Protection Policy of the Icelandic Road Administration.

Personal data handled and the purpose of processing

When you apply for a discount on domestic fares to and from the capital area on the overhead bridge, you will be retrieved from the National Registry information such as ID number, name, home, date of birth, children's names, date of birth and year of birth of children and kept on the website.

When booking air fare, an airline booking machine automatically retrieves your details from , i.e. information on name, sex, date of birth and name, sex, date of birth of children if the booking is also for children. When buying a fare, the airline shall communicate information on the flight purchased to www.loftbru.island.is, i.e. flight leg, booking date, date of flight, amount of discount, fare amount, gender, age and post code of discount recipient.

This information is being processed on you to process your application for a discount on domestic fares to and from the Capital Region and submit directly to the payment process the subsidy to which you are entitled.

Dissemination of personal data and authorisation for processing

Your flight information will not be forwarded and will only be available to you on airbru.island.is. The Icelandic Road Administration receives, however, certain non-personal information from airbrush.island.is in order to have an overview of the utilization and distribution of the rebate.

The project itself is based on an aviation policy presented in the transportation plan in accordance with a parliamentary resolution on the transportation plan for 2020-2034 and a parliamentary resolution on the transportation plan for 2020-2024, which was approved by the Althingi in the summer of 2020. The Icelandic Road Administration was entrusted with the task on the basis of point 2, Article 7 of the Act on Road Administration, No. 120/2012, which stipulates that it shall oversee the administration of grants for public transport.

Security of personal data

Processing of personal data at Iceland.is takes place within the European Economic Area. The best methods are used to ensure the security of the personal data processed and the security audits are performed on a regular basis.

Your rights

You are entitled to receive confirmation that your personal data is being processed for an application for a discount on airfares, as well as further information on the processing itself. You will then be entitled to receive a copy of your personal data which has been processed for your application for a discount on airfares.

You also have the right to have the wrong information about you corrected, and in certain cases may object to the processing of the personal data or request that the processing be limited. However, you are not entitled to demand that the information be deleted, as the government is obliged to keep all data generated concerning its operations for 30 years. At the end of this period, the authorities are obliged to return them to the National Archives of Iceland in accordance with the Public Archives Act, No. 77/2014.
