Licences for firearms

Registration of a borrowed weapon

If an individual intends to use and possess firearms owned by another person for a period of more than 4 weeks, an application for a borrowed weapon must be submitted. The prospective loan recipient must also be given the national number of the firearm, which the owner can see in his property list.

Once the application has been approved by the police, the owner of the firearm receives a notification and must confirm that he is lending the firearm to the person in question.

The process is in fact the same as when selling a firearm, except that no change of ownership occurs. Once the process has been completed, the weapon will be visible on the property lists of both parties, the loan recipient and the owner.

In the case of a loan recipient it will be marked as a loan weapon, but with the owner it will be moved to the position "To Loan".

A loan authorisation remains in effect until either party notifies the police of the cancellation of the loan authorisation.
