Paying import charges on shipments to Iceland

Returning goods to a foreign seller

If you return goods that were ordered online, you may be entitled to a refund, reduction or cancellation of import charges.

Cases where you can apply for a refund of import charges

  • Goods not collected
If the goods are returned because the recipient could not be reached or refused to accept the delivery.

  • Unused goods returned
If the goods have been collected and then returned unused to the sender.

  • Defective goods
If the goods are faulty and returned unused to the seller. This also applies if the defect is discovered after use. If a replacement item is sent under warranty, you may need to pay import charges again on the new item.

When claiming a refund for returned goods, you may need to provide:

  • Proof of return shipping (such as a receipt) or a tracking number

  • Evidence of the reason for return, for example communication between you and the seller
