Iceland Health covers the cost of necessary orthodontics for children and young people.

Conditions are:

• Treatment with fixed appliances (braces) on at least 10 adult teeth in the palate

• That the service is provided by an orthodontic specialist

• That treatment with fixed appliances begins before the age of 21

• That the person has not previously received a grant for orthodontics

Grant amount:

• ISK 310,000. if fixed appliances are only placed in one palate

• ISK 460,000 if fixed appliances are placed on both palates

The dentist is responsible for sending the application to Iceland Health. The grant goes to the orthodontist who will reduce your bill by that amount until the grant amount is paid in full. See further here.
