Grants for study leave in upper secondary schools

Closed for applications / Deadline was 07. October 2025

Rannís announces the call for study leave applications no later than 1 September each year.

The purpose of study leave is to provide teachers and administrators in upper secondary schools with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and strengthen their professional skills.

Who can apply?

Teachers, guidance and career counselors, principals, and other administrators in upper secondary schools who have worked for at least five years in teaching or administrative positions.

How to apply

Applications are submitted through Rannís’ electronic application system.

An application for study leave must include, among other things:

  • how the applicant intends to use the study leave and how it is expected to benefit their work,

  • information about the educational institution where the applicant plans to study during the leave. If it is not formal study but shorter courses, training, or another type of study stay, a detailed description of the program must be provided,

  • whether the applicant has previously received study leave for teachers,

  • a written statement from the principal supporting the application for continuing education leave for individual teachers, guidance and career counselors, or administrators for whom the school is applying,

  • any other information the applicant considers relevant.

The applicant must inform the principal of their application for study leave.
