Grants for the treatment of a skin disease

Health insured persons are entitled to a grant for necessary treatment of skin disease, which is provided by non-medical providers but according to a doctor's orders.

Conditions

The treatment must be carried out by an operator who has been certified by the Directorate of Health and works under contract with the Ministry of Health.

Payment participation

Iceland Health participates in payments for the following treatments:

Radiation therapy

80% of the cost of the treatment of skin diseases consisting of B rays and/or B and A rays, with or without ointment.

PUVA treatment

90% of the cost of the treatment of skin diseases that are involved in PUVA treatment.

Psoriasis and eczema

Iceland Health pays for psoriasis and eczema patients who need to seek medical care in treatment institutions, which replaces hospital stay.

Patients pay the cost of travel themselves for treatment.

Payment participation is limited to up to 23 times per patient during the treatment period.

Iceland Health have an agreement with the Blue Lagoon regarding this treatment.

The need for treatment must have been assessed by a doctor, which has also been confirmed by the dermatologist of the person providing the treatment (the dermatologist of the Blue Lagoon).
