Firearm for employment
Farmers, veterinarians and pest control practitioners can be given special authorisation to acquire firearms for the killing of animals.
In general
Applicants for a work permit must:
be a registered veterinarian,
live in a legally protected area and have a livestock, or
have an agreement with the municipality on pest control
Conditions
The applicant must:
be 20 years of age or older
have no criminal record
the applicant must also fall into one of the following categories: be a qualified veterinarian, live on a registered farm and own livestock, or have a pest control contract with a municipality.
Application
You must send the application via email to your local district.
In the email, you need to give the police permission to view your criminal record.
The police will check both their own records and your criminal record when processing your application.
Documents
The application must be include:
certification of the qualifications of a veterinarian
a copy of the report from Bústofn, or
agreement with the municipality on the control of pests
Rights
Authorizes the ownership and use of:
suitable single-shot guns (like cattle guns) smaller than .22 caliber for euthanizing livestock, pest control, and mink hunting.
Duration
Maximum 5 years.
