Now, individuals can activate the electronic ID anywhere in the world
The Identification App is an easy, convenient and secure way to identify yourself on the web and perform qualified electronic signatures. The app can be used anywhere in the world, independently of telephone companies on both Icelandic and foreign mobile phone numbers.
In the latest version of the Identity app, you can activate electronic identification with self-service - anywhere in the world.
Self-service is performed using biometric data in your passport, the person in question must:
Have reached the age of 18
Use smart device with NFC support
Have a valid Icelandic passport
You retrieve the Identification app or activate an electronic ID with biometrics on your phone or smart device. After an account has been created, you can use the Identification App with the supporting service providers.

Do I have to have an Icelandic phone number?
No, the app depends only on the device you install the app in, not the SIM card itself.
Why are there two PIN codes in the app?
When entering, you are asked to select two PINs
PIN1 is a 4-12 digit and is used for identification e.g. log-on to online banking or Ísland.is
PIN2 is a 5-12 number and is used for electronic signatures, e.g. when taking out a loan
You can select the same number with extra characters. For example, PIN1 = 1234; PIN2=12345 Further information is available at app.audkenni.is
