Inheritance may request that the District Commissioner appoint an assessor to assess the market value of the assets or liabilities of the estate.

If the general market value of a property is considered to be lower than the property value, heirs may request that the district commissioner appoint an assessor to assess the market value of the property. The condition for the estate is that the property has not been sold off.

A written request for appointment of an assessor must be submitted to the district commissioner, stating the following:

  • the estate of death and the heir requested for valuation

  • what assets or liabilities should be valued and to what extent;

  • information on other heirs of the deceased

An heir requesting valuation shall be responsible for paying the cost of this.

If the District Commissioner has appointed an assessor to assess the market price of a property, the assessment price may be recorded on a will report instead of a property assessment. The assessment may not be more than four weeks old when a genetic report is submitted.
