The Icelandic Transport Authority recognises external examiners for:

1. a category B practical tests,

2. a practical examination in categories other than category B;

3. theoretical tests in all categories.

Class B practical tests

The person meets the criteria for recognition:

a. has reached the age of 24,

b. meets the requirements for mental and physical health required of drivers in group two, cf. Annex III of the Regulation on driving licences;

c. has held a valid licence for category B for at least the previous five years and has driven a car on a regular basis during that time,

d. the provisions of para. 2, Art. 68 of the Penal Code do not apply,

e. have completed at least four years of study after compulsory school and have received education with emphasis on pedagogy and pedagogy,

f. has completed an examination conducted by the Icelandic Transportation Office

Ideally, applicants should have all driving licences and driving instructor training.

Practical tests in a category other than B

Such a person meets the criteria for recognition:

a. who holds a valid driving licence for the category of driving licence in question,

b. recognised for B-level practical tests

c. has judged practical tests in category B for at least three years. The time may be reduced:

i. if the examiner has at least 5 years experience of driving a vehicle in the category in question, or

ii. if he/she passes a theoretical and practical examination in that category with better results than are required at least, or

iii. he/she shall complete a new training and examination in accordance with subparagraph (1)(f).

Theoretical tests in all categories

A person fulfils the conditions of recognition satisfying the conditions of sub-paragraphs (a), (c), (d), (e) and (f) of paragraph 1.
