A request that the District Commissioner confirms an agreement on step-parents custody

A parent who exercises sole custody over his/her child and the step-parent of the child may agree to exercise joint custody over the child.

A parent exercising sole custody may make an agreement with his/her spouse that they shall exercise joint custody of a child if they are married or have been registered as living with the National Registry of Iceland for at least one year.

Procedure is the same as when parents agree on a change of custody, but the District Commissioner shall also call for the other parent's opinion.

If you don't have electronic ID you can get the request via PDF here.
