Citizenship for children and young adults
A young adult, 18 to 20 years old, who has had permanent and continuous residence in Iceland since the age of 13, can acquire Icelandic citizenship by informing the Directorate of Immigration of this wish.
A child or young adult, who is stateless or has received international protection and has had permanent and continuous residence in Iceland for at least three consecutive years, can acquire Icelandic citizenship by informing the Directorate of Immigration of this wish before turning 21 years old.
