The period of validity and/or the duration of authorized stay of an issued visa may be extended if its period of validity is less than 90 days. You cannot apply for an extension of a visa issued for 90 days.
Generally, a visa may not be extended so that the stay exceeds 90 days in a 180 day period.
If you want to extend your stay in Iceland for a longer period of time, you should look into applying for a long-term visa instead.
Requirements
In order to apply for an extension, the holder must demonstrate that:
Force majeure or humanitarian reasons prevent the holder from leaving the Schengen area before the period of validity or the duration of authorized stay expires.
Serious personal reasons that justify the extension of the period of validity or the duration of authorized stay.
Application
Applications can only be submitted electronically by email to visa@utn.is.
Fee
No fee is charged for the extension of a visa due to force majeure or humanitarian reasons.
A fee of 4.600 ISK will be charged for the extension of a visa for serious personal reasons, if the application is approved.
