Visa extension

Apply for visa extension

The period of validity and/or the duration of authorized stay of an issued visa may be extended if its period of validity is less than 90 days. You cannot apply for an extension of a visa issued for 90 days.

Generally, a visa may not be extended so that the stay exceeds 90 days in a 180 day period.

If you want to extend your stay in Iceland for a longer period of time, you should look into applying for a long-term visa instead.

Requirements

In order to apply for an extension, the holder must demonstrate that:

  • Force majeure or humanitarian reasons prevent the holder from leaving the Schengen area before the period of validity or the duration of authorized stay expires.

  • Serious personal reasons that justify the extension of the period of validity or the duration of authorized stay.

Application

Applications can only be submitted electronically by email to visa@utn.is.

Fee

No fee is charged for the extension of a visa due to force majeure or humanitarian reasons.

A fee of 4.600 ISK will be charged for the extension of a visa for serious personal reasons, if the application is approved.
