The period of validity and/or the duration of authorized stay of an issued visa may be extended if its period of validity is less than 90 days. You cannot apply for an extension of a visa issued for 90 days.
Generally, a visa may not be extended so that the stay exceeds 90 days in a 180 day period.
Requirements
In order to apply for an extension, the holder must demonstrate that:
Force majeure or humanitarian reasons prevent the holder from leaving the Schengen area before the period of validity or the duration of authorized stay expires.
Significant personal circumstances that justify the extension of the period of validity or the duration of authorized stay.
Application
Applications can only be submitted in paper form, either to the drop box in the lobby of the Directorate of Immigration at Dalvegur 18 in Kópavogur or by sending the application by regular mail to the same address.

The application must be in its original form, duly completed and signed by the applicant.
Fee
No fee is charged for the extension of a visa due to force majeure or humanitarian reasons.
The fee for extending a visa for significant personal reasons is ISK 4,600.
