You can apply for an exemption from customs duties and charges if an organization or institution receives gifts for humanitarian and charitable activities, or if equipment and supplies are being imported for scientific research.

Conditions and supporting documentation depend on the nature and purpose of the application.
All applications for an exemption must be accompanied by:
Applicant's phone number
Commercial invoices (originals of all invoices)
Bank account details
Two copies: Send both the applicant's copy and Skatturinn's copy in the email
Special conditions
This category applies if an organization or institution is gifted equipment, supplies, or other capital goods for use in charitable work—for example, healthcare institutions, group homes, search and rescue teams, the Red Cross, and others.
Conditions
No connection may exist between the donor of the goods and the recipient.

Donation letter and thank-you letter. Signed and dated letter containing a statement from the donor regarding the purpose of the gift, and confirmation from the recipient that it will be used in their operations
This category applies if an Icelandic scientific institution purchases equipment using research grants, or receives equipment on loan or as a gift from foreign entities.
Conditions
The equipment must be used directly for research activities at the institution.
If the grant only covers part of the cost of the equipment, import duties must be paid on the remaining amount.
If it is a gift, there must be no financial connection between the parties.
