When goods of Icelandic origin or preferential origin are exported from Iceland, overseas buyers can receive preferential tariff treatment, which is a discount or waiver on customs duties, on the basis of free trade agreements.

In order for the goods to receive preferential tariff treatment, the exporter must prove the origin of the goods by obtaining confirmation, called a statement on origin verification (TS-124), that the certificate of origin declaration is correct.

This is the process

After having filled out a movement certificate, you must:

  1. Fill out a statement origin verification form (TS-124)
If more than one type of Icelandic product is included on the same origin certificate, a separate report must be prepared for each product type. All fields of the report must be filled out for it to be considered valid.

  2. Submit a completed statement of origin verification and the movement certificate to the customs office
Customs verifies that the goods meet the rules of origin according to the relevant free trade agreement. Customs stamps the certificate and returns it to you.

  3. Send the statement of origin verification with the shipment
The buyer uses the statement of origin verification and the movement certificate to apply for preferential tariff treatment with the customs authorities in their country.

The most common movement certificate is EUR.1. A EUR-MED certificate or an invoice declaration may also be used, subject to conditions.
