Application for Approval as a Cargo Security Operator

To be approved as a cargo security operator, an authorised representative of the company must complete an online application.

Once you have entered all the information, click Halda áfram. A new page will appear showing the information that will be included in the application.

• If all the information shown is correct, confirm the application by clicking Staðfesta umsókn.

Once the application has been confirmed, two emails will be sent to the email address provided by the authorised representative in the application.

• Email 1: The authorised representative must review the email and click the link to confirm their email address.

Once the email address has been confirmed, a second email will be sent.

• Email 2: This email contains a copy of the application. Click the link in the email to open a printer-friendly version of the application.

The authorised representative must:

The application will then be processed by Iceland Revenue and Customs. No further action is required at this stage.

Once the application has been processed, the authorised representative will receive instructions on the next steps at the email address provided in the application.

Once the application has been received, Iceland Revenue and Customs checks whether:

A. The company meets all the requirements for approval as a cargo security operator.

B. The cargo security officers meet all the applicable requirements.

Possible outcomes:

4.1. Company approved: The authorised representative receives confirmation by email, together with a link to access the cargo security website.

4.2. Issues with the application: If there are issues with the application that prevent it from being approved, Iceland Revenue and Customs will contact the authorised representative specified in the application.

4.3. Cargo security officer approved: The authorised representative receives an email confirming that the cargo security officer has been approved and must inform the officer. The cargo security officer can then access the cargo security system using the link provided in the email and begin their duties. Information about the cargo security officer’s working environment is available in a separate help document.

4.4. Cargo security officer not approved: If the cargo security officer does not meet the requirements, Iceland Revenue and Customs will contact the company’s authorised representative.

Enter the company’s Icelandic ID number (kennitala) here.

Enter the details of the employee who will be responsible for cargo security at the company. This may, for example, be the chair of the board, CEO, deputy CEO, managing director, deputy managing director, office manager, finance manager, department manager, production manager, factory manager, supervisor, security officer or quality manager.

Enter the manager’s Icelandic ID number (kennitala) and personal email address. The email address must not exceed 60 characters.

Select the option that best describes the company’s business activity.

If Exporter / Manufacturer is selected, you must also select the relevant export product category from the drop-down list that appears.

If you select Other from the drop-down list, enter the product category in the field also labelled Other. You can enter a maximum of 60 characters.

If Exporter / Manufacturer is selected, you must also select the countries to which the company exports from the drop-down list that appears.

You can select more than one country at a time by holding down the Ctrl key. You can also add more countries by opening the drop-down list again.

To remove a selected country, click the x next to the country name.

You must also indicate whether goods are exported in containers. If you select Yes, enter the number of containers exported during the past two years and the estimated number of containers to be exported during the next 12 months.

If Other Business Activities is selected, you must also select the relevant business activity from the drop-down list that appears.

If you select Other from the drop-down list, enter the business activity in the field also labelled Other. You can enter a maximum of 60 characters.

Enter the details of the individuals who will carry out cargo security duties for the company. Under the cargo security rules, these individuals are referred to as cargo security officers.

Enter each cargo security officer’s Icelandic ID number (kennitala) and personal email address. The email address must not exceed 60 characters. If a cargo security officer does not have a company email address, you may leave this field blank.
