The Performance Plan 2025–2029 in air navigation services has been issued by the Icelandic Transport Authority. The plan is based on international requirements and forms part of the implementation of objectives for safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable air navigation within the Single European Sky.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) defined in the plan:
Safety
Environment
Capacity
Cost-efficiency
Objectives and purpose
The purpose of the Performance Plan is to support the sustainability of air transport and provide a framework for long-term improvements in the performance of air navigation services. Special emphasis is placed on increasing operational efficiency, improving the use of airspace, ensuring system capacity, achieving cost stability, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from air traffic.
Consultation and next steps
The plan covers Icelandic airspace and has been developed in broad consultation with stakeholders, including air navigation service providers. The Icelandic Transport Authority continues to encourage active participation and welcomes comments and suggestions that can contribute to further development of the plan.
Data collection and legal basis
Due to the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on air traffic during 2020–2024, data from this period could not be used when setting performance targets in this edition of the plan, as had been foreseen. The preparation of performance plans is based on the requirements of the regulation on air navigation in the Single European Sky.
The plan has been approved by the Minister of Infrastructure and the Director General of the Icelandic Transport Authority.
