The Icelandic Medicines Agency is authorized to grant veterinarians a license to sell medicines intended for use on animals, provided certain conditions are met.
The conditions are:
Holding a valid veterinary license in Iceland.
Notifying Matvælastofnun that the individual has commenced veterinary work and providing information about the location of their practice.
A veterinarian's license to sell medicines intended for use on animals is limited to the sale and delivery of the following types of medicines for animals under the care of the veterinarian:
Over-the-counter medicines for animals.
Medicines prescribed by a veterinarian in accordance with Regulation No. 539/2000 on veterinarians' authority to prescribe medicines.
Who can apply
Veterinarians with a valid veterinarian's license in Iceland.
Delivery
The license is sent by email to the applicant.
Cost
The cost of the application is according to the price list of the Icelandic Medicines Agency.
