Dispute over custody or legal domicile of a child
If the parents state a dispute regarding the custody or domicile of the child(s), the matter is referred to mediation . If no settlement can be reached in the mediation process, the District Commissioner may not confirm the agreement on account of cohabitation until a court action has been brought to resolve the dispute.
If an agreement is reached in mediation, the District Commissioner shall confirm the agreement regarding cohabitation and report it to the National Registry of Iceland.
Disputes concerning child support
If the parents have a claim to support, the legal parent may request that the parent with whom the child lives after the break-up of the co-operation may also request a ruling by the District Commissioner on child support from the other parent.
