Following the launch of the Digital Iceland project, various public institutions have entered into discussions with Digital Iceland regarding their future in digital development. The aim of this application was to establish a standard process by which agencies that would be willing to take the next step in the digital journey could be directed.

Systematic monitoring of radioactivity in the environment in Iceland began in the late 1980s, with emphasis on regular measurements of radioactive cesium (Cs-137) in foodstuffs and the environment.
