Akureyri Hospital (SAk) has implemented a new digital medication prescribing system for cancer treatments, known as the Cato system, which significantly improves the safety and efficiency of treatment for patients receiving chemotherapy. The system was first adopted at Landspítali (the National University Hospital of Iceland) at the end of 2022 and has now been introduced at SAk.

A recording of a streamed meeting held on 9 May last year on the new disability and rehabilitation pension scheme, which will take effect on 1 September 2025, has been published. The objective of the meeting was to inform customers who are currently receiving disability pensions and are moving into the new disability and rehabilitation scheme about the main aspects of the new scheme.

The Israeli army has been carrying out attacks on infrastructure in Iran in the last night. The areas that were attacked include Natanz, where uranium enrichment is carried out. Natanz is located 300 km south of the capital Tehran.

This winter, concerns arose about possible mold in the laboratory facilities at Akureyri Hospital (SAk), after staff began experiencing unexplained symptoms such as fatigue and headaches. Initial assessments suggested the issue was limited in scope, but more recent investigations reveal that the problem is far more extensive than initially thought – and that the source is likely beneath the floors, rather than in the outer walls as previously assumed.

The Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority calls attention to a recall of the product Quantum Shield – Nano technology. Quantum Shield are stickers made by Fan Yun Craft Electronics Co in China. Quantum Shield contains a small amount of radioactive material and if the stickers are put on the skin, it causes unnecessary radiation to people. Radiation from radioactive materials can cause damage to people and increase the risk of cancer.
