Right of a child to seek advice from the District Commissioner

A child may request from the District Commissioner that his or her parents be called to a conversation on arrangements for custody, domicile, residence and access. The District Commissioner shall provide the child and parents with appropriate guidance and inform the child of their rights. In each case, the child's point of view shall be taken into consideration and the arrangements shall be promoted in the best interests of the child.

The District Commissioner may request the assistance of an expert in matters concerning children in preparing and conducting an interview with parents.

The right of a child to express himself/herself

Before parents are called to a conversation, the child should generally be given the opportunity to have a preliminary interview. The child's consultation is assessed whether and in what way his or her point of view or the information the child gives is made known to the parents.

Parents are obliged to attend the meeting and shall generally attend together. One to two conversations with parents will take place in which the means of meeting the views and expectations of the child is provided.
