Skilled tradespeople who have completed their vocational education abroad and intend to work in their trade in Iceland must have their qualifications recognised and their professional rights confirmed in Iceland.
All applications must be submitted to the Icelandic ENIC/NARIC Office: ENIC/NARIC Iceland
Further information is available on the ENIC/NARIC website.
The process
Applicants who meet the educational requirements for work in a licensed trade in Iceland will receive a confirmation opinion from the ENIC/NARIC Office. No additional studies are required in order to work in the relevant field in Iceland. However, applicants from countries outside the EEA must obtain a work permit from the Directorate of Labour.
The following documents must accompany the application to the ENIC/NARIC Office:
A copy of the final diploma or certificate from the applicant’s home country, certified by the issuing school or another recognised authority.
A translation of the diploma or certificate into Icelandic or English.
Verified information, in Icelandic or English, regarding the applicant’s professional experience in the trade concerned.
Confirmation of the applicant’s professional rights in the home country, in Icelandic or English, where applicable.
A photocopy of the applicant’s passport.
Once a positive assessment has been issued by the ENIC/NARIC Office, the District Commissioner of East Iceland issues a licence certificate confirming that the applicant’s education and professional experience meet the requirements for employment in Iceland.
