Participation in accommodation costs in residential and nursing facilities

In short

Participation in the cost of living in residential and nursing care facilities is income-related and starts at the same time as the payments are cancelled.

  • The participation is calculated according to the current earnings plan at TR.

  • If income is in excess 128.125 ISK per month, after tax, after the pension payments have been cancelled, the pensioner contributes to the cost of his/her stay.

  • The maximum cost participation 568.433 ISK is per month.

  • If the monthly reference income reaches 696.568 ISK after tax, maximum participation is paid.

  • The cost of the stay is collected by the residence and nursing home concerned.

  • It is possible that a right to a special pension is created when a stay in an institution begins.

Rights of spouses and cohabiting partners

Spouses and cohabiting partners of pensioners staying in a residential and nursing care facilities may have the right to special home supplement.
