During parental leave, employees are protected from termination and should be able to return to their work after their leave.

Termination of employment

It is impermissible to terminate the employment of an employee when they have applied for parental leave or are on parental leave without other valid reasons. A written justification for termination must be attached to the termination notice.

Right to work after parental leave

During the parental leave, the contract of employment between an employee and an employer remains valid and the employee has the right to return to their position after their leave. If they can not return to their position, they are entitled to a comparable position with the employer according to their contract of employment.

Pension fund contribution and occupational rights

During the parental leave, the parent pays at least 4% of the parental leave payments to their pension fund and the Maternity/Paternity Leave fund at least 8%.
Parents can pay to a personal pension fund, but the Maternity/Paternity Leave Fund does not pay the complementary contribution.

Regarding occupational rights, the parental leave is considered when calculating other rights, including vacation days, pay rise due to age, illness rights, notice of termination, and rights to unemployment benefits.

Parents can request not to pay membership fees to trade unions during their leave, but this may temporarily affect their rights within the union.
