Election observing for the municipal elections

Landskjörstjórn has issued authorizations for election observation during the municipal elections. Landskjörstjórn (The National Electoral Commission) has issued authorizations for election observation during the municipal elections on the basis of Article 138 of the Election Act. The observers are from The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and the British organization Democracy Volunteers.
The main goals and purpose of election observation include increasing transparency in the conduct of elections, strengthening the trust of voters, candidates, and the public in the election results, and making recommendations for improvements to election procedures.
Election observers must notify the electoral commission at the polling station or counting center of their arrival and departure, and they are required to comply with the laws, regulations, and any other instructions and meeting rules in effect at each location.
