A sentence on the application of the provision of the general criminal law on intimate relationship offences

Today, the Supreme Court ruled in a case where the defendant’s conduct of knowing her ex-girlfriend in her home, pushing her down a staircase, grabbing her hair, hitting her in the head and taking her to the throat with further specified consequences was considered an offence in a close relationship and not a minor assault, as was done in the Landsréttur judgment.

Today, the Supreme Court ruled in a case brought by R against A regarding two specific comments made by A in a radio program. The Supreme Court’s decision stated that a discussion on important social issues enjoys increased protection of freedom of expression and that A would be granted more freedom to express himself.

Time limit for appeals to the European Court of Human Rights reduced from six months to four

It is noted that the 15th Annex to the European Convention on Human Rights reduced the time limit for appeals to the Court of Human Rights from six months to four months after the domestic remedies have been exhausted, as per Article 35(1) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
